Westminster Bulky Item Pickup: Two Items, No Mattresses

Westminster bulky item pickup is among the tightest programs in Orange County. Midway City Sanitary District allows two items every thirty days, and mattresses are not on the list at all.

That second rule surprises almost everyone, so it is worth covering first.

Mattresses Are Excluded, But There Is a Free Option

The bulky program will not take a mattress. However, the district runs a free mattress drop-off at 14451 Cedarwood Street, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you can fit the mattress in a truck or a van, that is a genuinely good deal and costs nothing. Of course, a king mattress does not fit in a sedan, and folding one alone in a driveway is how people hurt their backs.

Beyond the local option, the statewide Bye Bye Mattress program lists recycling sites, and mattress-only loads go free to the Olinda Alpha and Prima Deshecha landfills through OC Waste and Recycling.

What Westminster Bulky Item Pickup Allows

Two items per pickup, once every thirty days, with about a week of advance notice. Collection is also subject to driver discretion, so what counts as one item is not always what you would guess.

Two items is a strict ceiling. A dresser and a bed frame is the whole appointment, and then you wait a month.

What Else Is Refused

Alongside mattresses, the program excludes glass, mirrors, and cabinets longer than six feet. Construction debris and household hazardous waste are out as well, which is standard across every city in the county.

Consequently, a kitchen remodel in Westminster is entirely outside the free program. Old cabinets are usually longer than six feet, and the tile and drywall never qualified in the first place.

Little Saigon and the Practical Problem

Westminster is home to Little Saigon and several hundred businesses, along with a mix of single-family homes, older apartment blocks and multigenerational households.

Larger households generate more furniture, not less. Meanwhile, a two-item allowance assumes a slow trickle of disposal rather than the reality of a family clearing a garage or preparing a home for sale.

How to Make the Program Work

First, call about a week before you want the collection, since the notice period is longer here than in most cities. Next, describe the items precisely, because driver discretion decides what counts. Then stage them at the curb only on the scheduled day.

Finally, plan the mattress separately. It will never go with the rest, so either book the Cedarwood drop-off into your schedule or arrange a pickup.

When Two Items a Month Is Not Enough

For most real jobs, it is not.

A garage cleanout at two items a month would take years. That is not a plan, it is a waiting list.

A move-out or estate cleanout has a fixed date and dozens of items. The thirty-day cycle cannot flex to meet it.

Anything heavy or upstairs still has to reach the curb under its own power, or rather under yours.

We handle those. Our crews cover junk removal in Westminster seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we carry everything out ourselves. That includes mattress removal, furniture, appliances, garage cleanouts and full estate cleanouts.

Use your two items and the free mattress drop-off. Call us when the job is bigger than a month at a time.
