Tustin Bulky Item Pickup: Four Free, Four Items Each

Tustin bulky item pickup is free four times a year for single-family homes, with four items each time. Apartments are handled differently, and not in the resident’s favor.

What Single-Family Homes Get

Four collections a year, four items per collection, through the city CR&R contract. Sixteen items annually.

Four items is modest. A couch, a chair, a coffee table and a lamp is one living room and the whole appointment. Therefore, most households find themselves choosing what matters most rather than clearing a space completely.

Apartments Pay

This is the part renters need to know. Multifamily bulky collection in Tustin runs through the property manager, and it carries a fee rather than being free.

So the free program is not available to you directly if you rent. Instead, ask your property manager what the building charges and how far ahead they need notice. Some buildings absorb the cost, though many pass it on.

Tustin is not unusual in this. Garden Grove and Placentia exclude apartments entirely, while Costa Mesa cuts out anyone on a dumpster. La Habra and Lake Forest are the county exceptions that treat renters well.

What Is Not Accepted

Construction and demolition debris is excluded, which rules out remodel material, drywall, tile and lumber.

Household hazardous waste is out too. Paint, solvents, pesticides and motor oil go to a county collection facility, and OC Waste and Recycling publishes the locations and hours.

Old Town and the Newer Tracts

Tustin covers a wide span of housing, from the older homes around Old Town to newer developments on the former base land near the blimp hangars.

Older properties tend to mean detached garages, narrow side yards and interior stairs. Newer ones often have the living space above a garage. Either way, the walk to the curb is on you, because every city program in the county collects from the street.

How to Book

Call CR&R to schedule, and describe each item, since crews work from the ticket they are handed.

Then put things out the night before your collection date. Setting furniture at the curb without a booking risks a code enforcement notice instead of a pickup.

What We Remove in Tustin

Our Tustin crews cover furniture removal, appliance removal, garage cleanouts, home cleanouts, hot tub removal, mattress removal and hoarder cleanouts. Same-day and next-day appointments run seven days a week.

When Four Items Will Not Do It

Three situations come up repeatedly.

You rent. Then the free program is not yours, and the paid route runs through the building.

The job is a cleanout. A garage, an estate or a move-out is dozens of items on a fixed date, not four items four times a year.

It is heavy or upstairs. A hot tub, a piano, a water heater or a second-floor sectional is beyond what most households can move safely.

We take those on for owners and renters alike. Our crews handle junk removal in Tustin seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we do the lifting.

Use your four pickups if you qualify. Call us for everything past them.
