Los Alamitos Bulky Item Pickup: Two Free, Four Items

Los Alamitos bulky item pickup is two free collections a year, with up to four items each. Universal Waste Systems handles residential collection for the city.

Eight items annually is a modest allowance, so it pays to use it deliberately rather than on the first thing that breaks.

What the Program Covers

Two collections per year, four items per collection, arranged through the hauler.

Four items is roughly one room. A bed frame, a mattress, a dresser and a nightstand is a bedroom and the entire appointment. Therefore, most households find the allowance gone well before the year is.

How It Compares Locally

Los Alamitos sits in a pocket of west county with wildly varying rules.

Cypress, next door, offers up to four collections of ten items for houses. Meanwhile, Seal Beach allows two collections of one item each, and La Palma just two items once a year. Consequently, Los Alamitos lands in the middle of a very uneven neighborhood.

What Is Not Accepted

Construction and demolition debris is excluded, which rules out remodel material, drywall, tile and lumber.

Household hazardous waste is out too. Paint, solvents, pesticides and motor oil go to a county collection center, and OC Waste and Recycling publishes the sites and hours at no charge.

A Small City Next to a Big Base

Los Alamitos is compact, and the Joint Forces Training Base sits alongside it.

That proximity shapes the housing turnover. Military families relocate on orders rather than on convenient timelines, and a permanent change of station means clearing a household on a fixed date, often quickly.

Two collections of four items a year cannot serve that. Meanwhile, the program collects from the curb, so a family packing out still has to move everything to the street themselves.

How to Book

Call Universal Waste Systems to schedule and list your items, since crews work from the ticket they are handed.

Then set them out the night before your collection day, clear of your carts. Furniture left at the curb without a booking risks a notice rather than a pickup.

What We Remove in Los Alamitos

Our Los Alamitos crews cover furniture removal, appliance removal, garage cleanouts, home cleanouts, hot tub removal, mattress removal and hoarder cleanouts. Same-day and next-day appointments run seven days a week.

When Eight Items Is Not Enough

Three situations, and they are common.

Moving out. A pack-out, an estate or a garage clearance is dozens of items on one date.

Heavy or upstairs items. A hot tub, a piano, a water heater or a second-floor sectional is not a two-person carry.

Short notice. Two scheduled collections a year rarely coincide with orders, an escrow closing or a lease end.

We cover all of it. Our crews handle junk removal in Los Alamitos seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we do the carrying.

Save your two collections for something awkward. Call us when the whole house has to go.
