La Palma Bulky Item Pickup: Two Items, Once a Year

La Palma bulky item pickup is the tightest allowance in Orange County. EDCO collects two items, once a year, and they need to be at the curb by 6 a.m.

To put that in perspective, Fullerton is fifteen minutes north and has no limit at all. Same county, same week, completely different situation.

What La Palma Bulky Item Pickup Includes

Two items, one collection per year. Consequently, the decision is not what to throw away but what deserves the single slot.

The program does accept some things people expect to pay for. Refrigerators and air conditioning units qualify, and so does one television per collection. Given that several nearby cities refuse televisions outright, that is a genuine advantage.

What EDCO Will Not Take

The refused list is specific and worth reading before you plan:

  • Tires
  • Dirt, concrete and asphalt
  • Paint and solvents
  • Pesticides
  • Liquids of any kind

So yard projects and remodels are out from the start. For the hazardous items on that list, Orange County runs free household hazardous waste centers, and OC Waste and Recycling publishes where they are.

The 6 a.m. Rule Matters

Items need to be at the curb by 6 a.m. on your collection day. Miss it and you have not just missed a pickup, you have missed your allowance for the year.

Therefore, put things out the night before. It is the single easiest way to lose a once-a-year benefit, and there is no second attempt in December.

Do Not Forget the Spring Cleanup

La Palma also runs an annual spring cleanup event, which is separate from your yearly bulky collection. For a city with a two-item allowance, that second opportunity is worth putting in the calendar.

Plan around it. If you know the cleanup is coming, you can hold larger items for it and save your regular pickup for something urgent.

A Small City With Normal-Sized Furniture

La Palma covers about 1.8 square miles, the smallest footprint of any city in the county. The lots are compact and the houses are ordinary suburban homes.

However, the furniture inside them is the same size as anywhere else. A sectional, a hot tub and a refrigerator do not shrink to match the city, and neither does a garage that has been filling since the 1990s.

When One Pickup a Year Runs Out

Which, realistically, is most of the time.

Any cleanout at all. A garage, an estate or a move-out involves dozens of items. Two per year does not begin to touch it.

Replacing more than one thing. New couch and new mattress in the same year already exceeds the allowance.

Anything indoors or heavy. The collection is curbside, so the carrying is yours regardless.

That is where we come in. Our crews handle junk removal in La Palma seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we do the lifting. We also cover furniture, appliances, mattress removal, garage cleanouts and estate cleanouts.
