La Habra Bulky Item Pickup: Apartments Get the Same Deal

La Habra bulky item pickup is free four times a year, and it does something almost no other Orange County city does. Apartment residents get the same allowance as houses, counted per unit.

If you rent, that is genuinely rare, and it is worth knowing about.

What La Habra Bulky Item Pickup Includes

Single-family residents get four free bulky pickups per year. Multi-family residents also receive four free pickups annually, counted per unit rather than per building.

Each appointment covers up to four large items, or alternatively up to twenty plastic bags of refuse or bundles of yard waste, each under fifty pounds.

That bag option is useful and often overlooked. For a yard clearance or a garage sort that produces sacks rather than furniture, twenty bags goes a long way.

Why the Apartment Rule Matters

Look at what neighboring cities do. Garden Grove, Placentia and Yorba Linda all restrict their free programs to single-family homes. Meanwhile, Costa Mesa excludes anyone on a shared dumpster, and Tustin routes apartments through the property manager for a fee.

La Habra simply counts per unit. Consequently, renters here have options that renters five minutes away do not.

What Counts as a Bulky Item

The city defines bulky items as large, hard-to-handle things such as furniture and major appliances, specifically ones that can only be moved by two or more people.

That definition is a useful signal. If it takes two people to move, it qualifies. However, it also tells you the crew expects to find the item at the curb, already moved by those two people.

Additional pickups beyond your four are available for a nominal fee, so running out is not a hard stop. Still, it stops being free.

What Is Not Accepted

Household hazardous waste needs its own route. Paint, solvents, pesticides and motor oil go to a county collection center, and OC Waste and Recycling lists where those are.

The curb. The city definition says it plainly: these are items that take two people to move. The program still expects you to be those two people.

Timing. Appointments book out, and escrow closings do not wait.
