Huntington Beach Bulky Item Pickup: What You Get Free

Huntington Beach bulky item pickup is free four times a year, and most residents never use a single one. Republic Services runs it, and by Orange County standards the allowance is generous. However, two rules catch people out, and one of them will leave your item sitting at the curb.

What Huntington Beach Bulky Item Pickup Includes

Weekly cart customers get four free pickups a year, with up to ten items each time. That is forty items annually, which covers most households comfortably.

The program accepts furniture, appliances, mattresses, bagged trash up to 40 pounds, and bundled palm fronds up to four feet and 40 pounds. Mattresses matter here. Neighboring Westminster excludes them outright, so Huntington Beach residents genuinely have it easier.

What Republic Will Not Take

Three categories are refused: televisions, pallets, and construction or demolition debris. Consequently, a bathroom remodel or a fence teardown is never going to qualify.

Televisions are the common surprise. Because they are excluded from the bulky program, they have to go to an Orange County household hazardous waste collection center instead. OC Waste and Recycling lists the locations and hours.

One more thing worth knowing: the City states plainly that it does not collect bulky or abandoned items from private property. In other words, if the item is in your garage, your side yard or your carport, the program simply does not reach it.

How to Book Your Free Pickup

Call Republic Services at (714) 847-3581 with at least 48 hours of notice. After that, the collection happens on your regular service day. Set carts and bulky items out by 7 a.m., since the service window runs from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Also, list your items specifically when you call. Crews work from the ticket, and anything not on it can be left behind.

What Apartment Residents Should Know

Buildings of two to four units may choose residential cart service, which keeps the free bulky program. Meanwhile, properties with five or more dwelling units must use commercial bin service, and the bulky terms then depend on the property rather than the city program. The City’s Trash and Recycling Office at 714-375-5010 can confirm which category your building falls into.

You can read the current rules on the City of Huntington Beach residential services page.

When Four Pickups a Year Is Not Enough

The free program is excellent for one couch. Still, it has hard edges.

It is curbside only. Nobody carries a sectional down from a second-floor bedroom or drags a water heater out of a garage. If you cannot move it yourself, ten items might as well be zero.

It is slow. Two days of notice is fine for spring cleaning. It rarely works for a close of escrow, a tenant turnover, or a move-out date.

It caps out fast. A garage cleanout runs to thirty or forty items, which is a full year of allowance in one afternoon.

That is where we help. Our crews cover junk removal in Huntington Beach seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we do the lifting. We also handle mattress removal, appliances, garage cleanouts and full estate cleanouts.

Use your four free pickups. They are worth having. Then call us for the parts they were never built to cover.
