Garden Grove Bulky Item Pickup: Houses Only, Three a Year

Garden Grove bulky item pickup gives single-family homes three free collections a year, with up to ten items each. Ten items is a genuinely useful allowance. However, there is a restriction that excludes a large share of the city outright.

Single-Family Homes Only

Republic Services runs the program, and it is limited to single-family residences. Apartments, condos and buildings on shared bin service are not covered.

That matters here more than in most cities, because Garden Grove has a lot of multifamily housing. If you rent, the free program probably does not apply to you, and disposal runs through your property manager instead. Therefore, check with the office before you move anything to the curb.

Garden Grove is not alone in this. Placentia and Yorba Linda draw the same line, while Costa Mesa excludes anyone on a dumpster. La Habra is the notable exception in north county, counting its allowance per unit so apartments get the same deal as houses.

What Garden Grove Bulky Item Pickup Includes

Three pickups a year, ten items each, which comes to thirty items annually for a qualifying household.

Collections are by appointment rather than automatic, so nothing happens until you call and book a date.

The Refrigerator Fee

Here is the detail that catches people out. Appliances containing refrigerant, which means refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units, carry a separate fee.

So an old garage fridge is not the free disposal most residents assume it is. Consequently, it is worth asking the cost when you book rather than discovering it afterwards.

What Is Not Accepted

Construction and demolition debris falls outside the program. Remodel material, drywall, tile, lumber and concrete all need a different route.

Household hazardous waste is excluded too. Paint, solvents, pesticides and motor oil go to a county facility, and OC Waste and Recycling lists the locations and hours.

How to Book

Call Republic Services to set an appointment, and describe each item when you do. Crews work from the ticket, so anything unlisted tends to stay at the curb.

After that, set items out the night before your scheduled date rather than days ahead. Furniture left at the curb without a booking can draw a code enforcement notice.

What We Remove in Garden Grove

Our Garden Grove crews cover furniture removal, appliance removal, garage cleanouts, home cleanouts, hot tub removal, mattress removal and hoarder cleanouts. Same-day and next-day appointments run seven days a week.

When the Program Does Not Fit

Three situations come up constantly in Garden Grove.

You rent. Then the free program is not yours to use, whatever the item.

The job is a cleanout. A garage, an estate or a move-out runs to dozens of items across a single day, not ten items three times a year.

It cannot reach the curb. Every city program in Orange County is curbside. Nobody carries a sectional down a staircase or hauls a water heater out of a garage, so the labor stays with you.

We handle all three, for renters and owners alike. Our crews run junk removal in Garden Grove seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we do the carrying.

Use your three pickups if you qualify. Call us for everything else.
