Brea bulky item pickup is one of the best deals in Orange County, and the e-waste rule is the reason. Republic Services gives residents three free bulky collections a year with twenty items each, and then places no limit at all on electronic waste pickups.

What Brea Bulky Item Pickup Includes

Three free pickups a year, up to twenty items per collection. In practice that is sixty items annually, which is enough for a serious garage cleanout spread across a year.

The city describes the service as covering household items such as old mattresses, water heaters, sofas and chairs. Mattresses being accepted is worth noting, because several nearby cities refuse them.

The E-Waste Advantage

Here is the part most residents miss. Brea states there is no limit on e-waste pickups. Televisions, monitors, computers and similar electronics therefore never eat into your three bulky allowances.

Compare that with Huntington Beach, where televisions are excluded from the program entirely and must be driven to a county facility. In Brea, you simply book another pickup.

What Republic Will Not Take

The exclusions are brief but firm: no building materials and no hazardous waste.

That rules out remodel debris, drywall, lumber and tile. Meanwhile, paint, solvents, pesticides and motor oil go to a county household hazardous waste center. OC Waste and Recycling lists where those are. Note as well that county facilities do not accept large appliances containing Freon.

Then pay attention to this instruction, because Brea states it explicitly: do not place your items at the curb until your scheduled pickup date. Putting a couch out early is how residents end up with a code enforcement problem rather than a collection.

Houses, Fourplexes and Larger Buildings

Brea counts single-family homes and complexes of four units or fewer as residential, so those all get the three-pickup program. Larger complexes are treated as commercial and use a three-stream container system instead, which means bulky terms come from the property rather than the city.

When Even Sixty Items Is Not Enough

Generous as it is, the program still has the same two hard limits every city program has.
