Anaheim Bulky Item Pickup: Twenty Items, Three Times a Year

Anaheim bulky item pickup gives residents three free collections a year, with up to twenty items each time. On paper that is one of the better allowances in Orange County. However, one rule quietly decides whether the program works for you at all.

What Anaheim Bulky Item Pickup Covers

Republic Services handles residential collection for the city. Three free pickups a year, twenty items per pickup, which comes to sixty items annually.

Twenty items is a real number. Consequently, a bedroom set, a patio set and a few boxes of odds and ends can go in a single visit rather than eating three separate allowances.

The Rule That Catches People Out

Here it is: crews will not enter your home.

That sounds obvious until you think about what you actually need removed. The sofa is in the living room. The treadmill sits in a spare bedroom upstairs. The water heater is in the garage. In every one of those cases, the free program starts at the curb, and getting the item there is entirely your job.

So the practical question is never how many items Anaheim allows. Instead, it is whether you and a friend can carry a sleeper sofa down a staircase without damaging the wall or yourselves.

What Republic Will Not Take

Construction and demolition debris is out. Therefore, a kitchen remodel, a bathroom teardown or a fence replacement does not qualify, however tidily you stack it.

Household hazardous waste is also excluded. Paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil and similar material go to a county facility instead, and OC Waste and Recycling publishes the drop-off locations and hours.

How to Book Your Free Pickup

Contact Republic Services to schedule, and list your items specifically when you do. Crews work from the ticket they are given, so anything you forget to mention can be left at the curb.

Then set everything out the night before your collection day rather than days ahead. Furniture parked at the curb without a booking can draw a code enforcement notice, which is a slow and expensive way to get rid of a couch.

Anaheim Is Big, and the Housing Varies

This matters more here than in smaller cities. Anaheim spans everything from the historic bungalows of the Anaheim Colony to postwar tract homes across West Anaheim, plus hillside properties and high-rise lofts near the stadium.

Older homes tend to mean narrow staircases, detached garages and long walks to the street. Meanwhile, apartment and condo residents often find the free program harder to use, since it is built around curbside cart service rather than shared enclosures.

When Three Pickups Are Not Enough

The program is genuinely good for what it is. Still, it runs out in predictable places.

Cleanouts. A garage or estate cleanout runs to dozens of items and a full day of labor. Even sixty items a year disappears fast once you start clearing a whole house.

Anything heavy or upstairs. As covered above, the crew stops at the curb.

Deadlines. Scheduled pickups rarely line up with a close of escrow, a tenant turnover or a move-out date.

That is exactly what we do. Our crews handle junk removal in Anaheim seven days a week, usually same day or next day, and we do the carrying, the stairs and the loading. We also take on mattress removal, appliances, furniture, garage cleanouts and full estate cleanouts.

Use your three free pickups for what fits. Call us for everything that will not reach the curb on its own.
